Supported living or home care: do you need different documents for CQC?

CQC publishes separate supporting-documents pages for home care agencies and supported living services. We compared them line by line. What is the same, what differs, and what the register says about providers doing both.

Published 16 October 2026. Sources are CQC's own pages, read directly, with CQC's page dates. Not legal advice; not endorsed by CQC.

0differences between the two lists
3,793locations registered for both

The two document lists are identical. The difference is in what you register for, your statement of purpose, and the service type on the register.

CQC's home care page and supported living page (both updated 15 June 2026) list the same four extra documents, the same nine keep-ready documents, the same two specialist policies, and the same personal care form. Neither needs a financial viability statement.

If you do both

CQC's page says: send all the documents required for each service you want to provide, and include relevant information for everything you are applying for in your documents. In practice one set of documents covers both, as long as the statement of purpose and service user guide describe both services.

What the register shows

Of the 14,594 active home care and supported living locations in England on 1 October 2026, 3,793 (26%) are registered for both service types, 9,795 for domiciliary care only and 1,006 for supported living only. Doing both is common, and it does not double the paperwork.
